LOKI Writer Michael Waldron Talks His Role in Creating AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY and SECRET WARS

Michele Waldronbest known for shaping the chaotic splendor of Loki and pen Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessnow offers details on his behind-the-scenes contributions Avengers: Judgment Day AND Avengers: Secret Wars.

The writer recently reflected on his evolving role within the Multiverse Saga and how he lent a helping hand to the Avengers dream team that now leads the franchise’s biggest event films.

Originally, The Kang Dynasty was supposed to arrive this year with Jeff Loveness (Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania) writing, while Waldron was facing Secret Wars. But a series of shocks, included Jonathan MajorsLegal problems and the mixed response to Quantumania caused Marvel to pivot.

Kang was removed as the MCU’s primary villain, and both Loveness and Waldron were reportedly removed from their respective projects, with Waldron asked to rework what would become Avengers 5.

Despite the turmoil, Waldron had an enormous influence on the Multiverse saga. His work on Loki Season 1 e Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness laid much of the groundwork for the MCU’s multiversal mayhem with concepts that will no doubt play a crucial role Judgment Day AND Secret Wars.

In a recent interview with The Wrap, Waldron explained how his involvement in the Avengers films has evolved over time.

“I was writing the movie after that, but there wasn’t a director attached yet, I was just involved in all those conversations. When that movie went away, I was working on what would become ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars’ for a while, and then they got the Russos and Steve McFeely involved.”

With Joe AND Antonio Russo returning to direct and Stephen McFeely helming the script, the Avengers franchise is in familiar hands. But Waldron isn’t entirely out of the picture.

“When those guys came in and figured out what these movies were going to be, and… [then] there was an opportunity for me to come back and get to know Joe, Anthony and Steve and really help however I could. What I’m trying to do is just support them.”

It is likely that Waldron brought a deep understanding of the Multiverse and the concept of Incursions Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness proving invaluable as McFeely shapes the story.

Considering Secret Wars will likely bring together multiple realities and heroes, having the guy who built the MCU’s Multiverse project in the room seems like a smart move.

McFeely, who co-wrote Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Civil war, Endless warAND End of games with Christopher Markuswill face Judgment Day AND Secret Wars solo this time. With Waldron assisting behind the scenes, the scripts are in good hands.

Marvel is hoping to go big again with Russo’s return to the MCU along with the return of Robert Downey Jr., who will join as Doctor Doom, which is still crazy to me.

Avengers: Judgment Day will be released in theaters on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
