According to the director and producer of the series Rick Famuyiwaeverything has been building up to this season, is the culmination of Star Wars plans that Jon Favreau he planned. Famuyiwa teases that she will repay the “seeds” that were planted in season one.
In a recent interview with Expiration Famuyiwa explained;
“The narrative that Jon [Favreau] it’s been on the cutting edge since the beginning, slowly, every season, every project, it’s brought us to this. It brings us to the third season,” Famuyiwa said. And so I think there’s a lot of seeds planted that are growing and culminating this season, so I feel that’s partly the feeling — the sense of things culminating. In some ways it really feels like a third act, even if there are a lot of stories to tell.
“But that’s the feeling I get: You feel like you’ve gone on a journey with these characters, and that journey is definitely coming to a head this season.”
I am so excited to see how this story continues to unfold and see the fruits of the seeds that have been planted. But I’m sure it will be great! Favreau also recently spoke about writing the series:
“We need to know where we’re going to tell a full story. We had it planned, Dave [Filoni] and I, and then slowly, just write each episode. Because everything must look like a continuation and a complete story. Then he’s doing Ahsoka, which I’m producing with him, but he’s the writer-showrunner on that. And so to understand what’s going on in other shows, or even Skeleton Crew, they all take place in the same time period as Star Wars.”
When it comes to plotting this epic Star Wars story, he added, “There’s a lot more things that we need to keep in mind and things that we’ve built on in previous seasons of The Mandalorian as well.”
The current third season sees the journey of Din Djarin (Peter Pascal) and Grogu continue as their adventure takes them to Mandalore, where Mando hopes to be “forgiven for his transgressions”. He also sees Mando move into a leadership position and Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff) face the disappointment of not getting Darksaber back.
The Mandalorian’s journeys across the Star Wars galaxy continue. Once a lone bounty hunter, Din Djarin has reunited with Grogu. Meanwhile, the New Republic struggles to remove the galaxy from its dark history. The Mandalorian will meet old allies and make new enemies as he and Grogu continue their journey together.
Season 3’s directorial lineup includes returning directors Famuyiwa, Charles WeathersAND Bryce Dallas Howardalong with Star Wars newcomers Lee Isaac Chung (Minaries), Peter Ramsey (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) and director of photography on Black Panther Rachel Morrisons.
