Keen fans are always finding new Easter Eggs and hidden gems in our favorite movies. One of the latest observations comes from a Pixar fan on Reddit who posted something he discovered while watching the film. On.
The opening sequence of the film draws in the viewers, telling us the story of Carl and Ellie from the day they met as children, through their romance and their lives, to Ellie’s death, which is where the rest of the story begins. Those first few minutes of the film are so touching that some fondly regard them as the sweetest love story ever told, at least at Pixar.
But there is a strange easter egg that has been plucked by a viewer, in which they notice two characters who appear to be the same person. Redditor u/wietpeukjes explained:
“Just watched Up again. Is the priest who marries Ellie and Carl also the doctor who brings them the news that Ellie can’t have children?”
They posted these side-by-side photos below:
These two characters definitely look alike! Some of the possible explanations given by users in the comments include that character models used in animated movies for background characters are often reused, or another user theorized that the two characters are twins! While one of these options points to a careless mistake and another points to a super intricate backstory for these animated background characters, I guess we may never know. Unless the animators want to comment on the newly found connection.
