James Cameron is clear that in the eyes of critics ‘Avatar: The Sense of Water’ is a success. The film that became the third highest-grossing film in history garners a staggering 76% positive reviews among professionals on Rotten Tomatoes. Yet now Cameron wants to know the opinion of the section that matters most to him: the public. For this, the director of ‘Titanic’ teamed up with his usual producer, Jon Landau, and they convened a viewing of the film together with a large group of fans that would end with a discussion with the director and producer: “This is something we’ve never done […] What I want to know is what you think, how you feel watching the movie”says Cameron in the first minutes of his speech.

It takes Cameron fourteen years to find and perfect a dramatic improvement between ‘Avatar’ and ‘Avatar: The Sense of Water’, during the discussion the director alluded to this desire for improvement, asking for the opinion and sincere advice of those who were there: “Be totally honest with us, it’s not just about telling us what we want to hear, it’s also about telling us the things we need to work on”The director is receptive.
Taking advantage of the offer and the fact that the director was open to criticism, the participants took the time to ask questions some issues that at first, knowing his particular personality, no one would dare to mention: Recording at more fps than the 24 of traditional cinema, motion capture, conveying emotion and some aspects of the treatment of the main plot were some of the topics that fans brought up in front of Cameron and Landau.
In addition to hearing the thoughts of this audience, the three-time Oscar winner takes note of everything that has been said for the future ‘Avatar 3’, expected for December next year, some advice from the public to a director who He promises to take into account all of the above: “Let’s meet again in two years to see if any of your ideas and comments make it into the film”says Cameron, admitting some assistant writers in future installments of “Avatar.”

Traditional cinema is recorded at 24 fps (frames per second) which gives the picture a natural and lifelike speed of movement. The speed or parsimony in the movement is directly proportional to the number of fps with which a scene or movie is shot in this case. “Avatar: The Sense of Water” is recorded at 48 fps, almost double what would be natural, giving it a video game feel and seemingly more frantic pace that fans just dislike. However, aside from the mood he entered the room in, Cameron has no plans to get off this ship: “There are people who are more annoyed than others, our goal is to keep improving it”says the director.
