Robert De Niro will star in the new Netflix thriller series ZERO DAY

Robert DeNiro is set to star in a Netflix limited series titled Day zero and it’s the first regular television role the actor has ever taken. The thriller will consist of six episodes and will all be directed by Leslie Linka Glatterwho is also an executive producer of the series.

The series “puts the question on everyone’s mind: How can we find the truth in a world in crisis, seemingly torn apart by forces beyond our control? And in an age filled with conspiracy theories and subterfuge, how many of those forces are the product of our own actions, perhaps even our own imaginations?

The show was written by Eric Newmann AND Noah Oppenheim and the two co-created it with Pulitzer Prize winner Michael S. Schmidt. They are all producers of the show.

Newman said in a statement: “I’ve been a lifelong fan of Robert De Niro. To have him as a producing partner and star in this show is beyond my wildest dreams. And Lesli Linka Glatter directed so many of my favorite TV episodes; she was our clear first choice to direct this show. I am grateful to Netflix for their continued trust and support and excited to be in business with the amazing creative team of Noah, Lesli and Jonathan on this timely (and terrifying) series.

Oppenheim added that Michael S. Schmidt and “the stories that kept him up at night” served as the initial inspiration, and added, “Seeing this twisted reality thriller, starring the legendary Robert De Niro, come to life is more that we could have hoped for”.
