It has long been known that ‘The Last of Us’ attempted to become a movie, ahead of the hit HBO series. But now, actor Jeffrey Pierce reveals that Ellie and Joel’s story was going to be an animated series, instead of the live-action that everyone knows, and which stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.

In an exclusive interview for The Direct, Jeffrey Pierce revealed that “The Last of Us’ It has almost been adapted into an animated series., and the HBO series narrowly became something entirely different from what it is now a hit. The Tommy and Perry actor reveals that there were several attempts to make an adaptation of the Joel and Ellie story that were eventually cancelled.

“There have been a couple of different iterations over time. At one point there was a movie. At one point there was a motion capture animated motion capture series. And both are things that I thought: “I have a good chance of being involved to some extent,” Jeffrey Pierce revealed in the interview.

Pierce reveals it the animated series ‘The Last of Us’ past “a long time ago, and a lot of white beard in the past. So as time went on, attempts to make this production fizzled out and when they started talking about Pedro Pascal and Mahershala Ali playing Joel, Pierce felt “I wasn’t going to play Tommy.”

What would the animated series of “The Last of Us” have been like?

While other animated video game adaptations like ‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’ or ‘Arcane’ on Netflix have been wildly successful, the story of ‘The Last of Us’ certainly felt like it needed a more realistic treatment. It’s hard to imagine what the adaptation of Joel and Ellie’s story into an animated series would have looked like, considering that their story was already intended for a cinematic format.

Jeffrey Pierce himself claims that the animated series of “The Last of Us” would have “motion capture”, so it would be something similar to the animations of “Klaus” or “The Strange World of Jack”, where stop-motion plays a role important in this animation style.

That’s probably why it was scrapped, as well as Sony’s attempt to bring Naughty Dog’s title to the big screen. Many will now agree that the format of television is what best suits “The Last of Us,” and it tells Joel and Ellie’s story from start to finish, in great detail.
