Films Twitter has been obsessed all week with the rap Ariana DeBose scored at the start of BAFTA 2023, in which she intended to pay tribute to actresses nominated for the British Academy of Film Awards. The rage for “it” that Angela Bassett did went so far that Lizzo imitated it in one of her concerts, Adele quoted it in another of her performances, Halle Berry repeated it on Twitter.. . The phrase was already iconic, from joke to battle cry.

Ariana DeBose herself decided to break her silence after the BAFTAs rounding up some of those TikTok moments and videos on his Instagram account with a message that sums it all up nicely: “The Internet is Wild”. But she takes it with humor: “Appreciate All the Love” concludes. In the gallery we see a bouquet of flowers sent by Wanda Sykes in which she says: “You did it”. She certainly did.

In an interview with BBC Radio, DeBose reiterated that the organization asked for it “a tribute to women”. The actress notes that she considers it mission accomplished: “We did it and it was fun. I won’t lie, I had a blast. It was amazing, and then I danced the night away with Emma Thompson. It was fabulous, I had a blast. Baz Luhrmann found me and said ‘I think you were amazing, it was fun, I had a blast'”. On memes, he adds: “It’s a triumph. Gay Twitter apparently seemed to like it. The meme summit took place on Saturday, February 25 at the NAACP Image Awards, where she won the Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture award for ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’, the Best Television Actress (Drama) award for ‘9- 1-1’ and the great trophy of the evening: “entertainer” of the year. It was then that she took the stage, clearly excited, and began her speech by saying: “I Guess Angela Bassett Did The Thing! (I Guess Angela Bassett Did It!)”.

A few moments earlier, on the red carpet, he had commented that he had contacted Ariana DeBose to express his support and affection: “I sent you a direct message last night. I did it. It was nice. I just wanted to make sure she was okay because, you know, she takes a lot of attention. and she is very good”. All’s well that ends well. And Angela Bassett still has time to do it again if she ends up winning the Oscar for best supporting actress on March 12 (early morning of March 13 in Spain).
