“Friends” included many cameos and short roles by celebrities, such as Brad Pitt, Reese Witherspoon or Jon Favreau, most of them short romantic interests of the friends group members. However, there is an actor who came and extended his appearance to the end and is considered one of the most loved characters: Paul Rudd. In an interview with The heart, the actor reflected on his experience in one of the most iconic comedies of recent years, where he played the calm and affectionate Mike Hannigan, boyfriend and then husband of the eccentric Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow). Rudd says that while he’s grateful for the experience, he doesn’t understand how his role was so important, even appearing in the final episode.

“It was all a bit surreal, I have to say, to be a part of it [‘Friends’]because I’ve come to the end”says Rudd. “I didn’t know I was going to be in so many episodes”. Moreover, it was in the most important episode of the series: number 236, the final chapter in which the actors said goodbye to the set that has been their home for ten years. To this, Rudd admits he felt “queers” and I thought: “I shouldn’t be here”. In the storyline, the couple of Mike and Phoebe came to the conclusion that they wanted to take the first steps towards starting a family.
The actor describes what it was like to have “a front row seat to things you shouldn’t see”. It was a very emotional moment and the entire cast was in tears as Rudd was in the middle not knowing what to do. “I felt very privileged, but I was also thinking ‘Hey… I’d like to sit on the side and get out of the way'”count between laughter.

It’s not the first time the actor shares these sentiments. “The series was a phenomenon and I was in the final episode, which made no sense to me”he also said on the Graham Norton show. Despite everything, he ensures that the filming for the comedy “It was a lot of fun, and they [los actores protagonistas] they were great!”.
A joke to break the ice
Due to his bewilderment and discomfort at being in the emotional finale, Paul Rudd tried an ice pick prank. He approached Jennifer Aniston, who was crying, and said: “Well, we did it! What a trip!”, he tells in the TV show. Aniston was not in the mood. “The joke inevitably fell on deaf ears”says Rudd. Despite this, the two are great friends, having acted together in the films ‘More Than Friends’ and ‘Let Me Out of Heaven’.
