After standing up to the Super Bowl, where there was speculation about a possible trailer for ‘The Little Mermaid’, Disney surprises us with a new preview of the long-awaited live-action remake of its 1989 animated classic, which is part of the company’s 100th anniversary celebrations. They were waiting for the right moment, because the teaser arrived just 100 days after the film’s theatrical release.
In the short 30-second preview, we dive under the sea alongside Halle Bailey, who plays Ariel, to find out a little more of what awaits us in the film. While Bailey sings the iconic “Part of Him”, which could also be heard in the first teaser, we can see various corners of the Atlántica, the home of the little mermaid, and several mermaids swimming, which could be Ariel’s sisters.
But there’s more. The teaser also finally gives us our first look at the Sea Witch, Ursula, played by Melissa McCarthy., although so far it is only partial (we see its eyes and tentacles and hear its evil laugh, but the full appearance has not yet been revealed). And we also officially meet Prince Eric, played by Jonah Hauer-King, who we see with Ariel on the boat during the iconic “Kiss her” scene. Finally, a yellow puffer fish also appears in the teaser, but it is not clear that it is Flounder, so we will have to wait for confirmation from Disney.

In addition to Bailey, McCarthy and Hauer-King, ‘The Little Mermaid’ completes the cast with Daveed Diggs as the voice of Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Awkwafina as Scuttle, Art Malik as Sir Grimsby, Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina and Javier Bardem in the role of King Triton. Directed by Rob Marshall (“Chicago”), with a screenplay by David Magee (“Life of Pi”) and produced by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who also contributes new original songs to the unforgettable score by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman.
Too dark?
Although the advance allows us to glimpse a backdrop that is colorful and full of wonders, there are parts that do They have attracted criticism on social media, as happened with the first teaser, due to the darkness of their photography.. In some shots, such as the aforementioned ‘Kiss her’ or the apparition of Úrsula, we are forced to raise the brightness of the screen to clearly distinguish what we are seeing. A worrying trend that has long plagued blockbusters and that has not gone unnoticed on Twitter, where they have put ‘Avatar: The sense of water’ as an example of how to best illuminate the ocean floor.

We saw the entire ‘Part of Your World’ sequence at D23 and it was so dark I couldn’t figure out where Flounder was for the most part. Not even when he started talking. https://t.co/e9EwGKQIbn
