The drama comes from the writer and director Nathan Silver (Thirst Street, uncertain terms) and the story “revolves around dysfunctional family dynamics, the perils of ambition, and the lengths we’ll go to make our mark on the world.”
Set in contemporary Rome, “Collette will play a legendary opera diva who is about to step into the role of a lifetime just as her daughter (Young) shows up at her door, fresh out of rehab. An aspiring opera singer, her daughter finds the courage to ask to be her mother’s replacement. When her mother callously rejects her suggestion, she snaps and begins to brood ultimate revenge, sparking a fierce battle of wills.
It sure looks like it’s going to be a crazy mother-daughter relationship story! This definitely isn’t going to be the feel-good movie of the year.
The film is in development at Dark Castle Entertainment and Rough House Pictures and is produced by David Lancaster (Whiplash, Nightcrawler), Julian Lawitschka (Halloween ends) AND Wolfgang’s hammer (Inside Llewyn Davis, House of Cards) next to Dark Castle’s Hal Sadoff (Rwanda hotels), Ethan Erwin (The good guys) AND Alex Mazza (Orphan: First kill).
David Gordon Green is also an executive producer, along with Danny McBride, Jody HillAND Brandon James from Rough House Pictures.
