‘Indiana Jones 5’: Antonio Banderas talks about his character and describes what it was like to work with Harrison Ford

When ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Fate’ debuts on June 30, we will see Antonio Banderas become Renaldo, his mysterious character from the saga. The man from Malaga granted an interview to Inside Total Film to talk about ‘Puss in Boots: the last wish’ but also gave new details about his participation in ‘Indiana Jones’ and what it was like working side by side with Harrison Ford.

“It was nice to be around [Harrison Ford]”says Banderas, “Some reporters tell me, ‘Oh my God, I was 7 when ‘Shrek 2’ came out, so now I’m 27 and I’m interviewing you and I’ve been watching your movies ever since,” and it was the same for me with Harrison. I remember the first time I saw ‘Indiana Jones’ and I freaked out. So just being there was nice.”

There is still no official synopsis that teases anything we can expect from her, although it seems that “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” will have the space race of 69 as its backdrop and again the Nazis as the archaeologist’s eternal enemies. On Renaldo, Banderas advances: “My character is very small. He’s not a bad guy, he’s a friend of Indiana, he helps him at one point in the movie. But he’s not [un papel] very big”.

The group

Unlike the rest of the installments, the fifth part of the Indiana Jones adventures is not directed by Steven Spielberg but by James Mangold and this time the screenplay is signed by Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth. Joining Ford and Banderas will be Mads Mikkelsen as the evil Voller and Boyd Holbrook as his right-hand man. Also starring are Phoebe Waller-Bridge as Helena, Indiana’s daughter and possible new heiress to the whip and the hat (which Shia LaBeouf didn’t get); Toby Jones, Thomas Kretschmann and bodybuilder Olivier Richters. Spielberg, George Lucas, Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel produce, and the music is, of course, returned by John Williams.
