Dave Bautista wants to star in a romantic comedy, but gets no offers: ‘Am I that unattractive?’

Since Dave Bautista’s transition from WWE professional wrestling to the film industry, the actor hasn’t been short of roles. Among other projects, we have seen him in “Blade Runner 2049”, “Dune”, “Army of the Dead”, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Drax, or recently in “Stabs in the Back: The Mystery of Glass Onion”. Although it can be assumed that he is making a more than decent career, There is one type of film that the actor lacks in his filmography – romantic comedies.

In an interview with Page Six, Bautista shared his concern that he’s not the right fit for a rom-com, a genre he wants to explore, but has never had the opportunity to: “I know I’m not your typical rom-com lead. I’m a little rough around the edges. But I always look in the mirror and ask myself: ‘Am I that unattractive? Is there something so unattractive about me that it excludes me from these roles?’ I don’t know, I’ve never had the opportunity. I’ve never had an offer to do a romantic comedy.” Despite his words, the actor remains confident: “I still have a lot of hope, I’ll keep looking.”

At the moment, none of the films that Bautista releases in 2023 are romantic comedies. On February 3, he stars in the new thriller by M. Night Shyamalan (‘The Sixth Sense’, ‘Multiple’), ‘A Knock on the Door’and both May 5 and November 3 delve into science fiction, respectively in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” and “Dune: Part 2”.

On several occasions, Dave Bautista has stated that he would like to play Batman villain Bane in the DC Universe. That dream seems to belong to the past, in an interview with Insider, The actor explained that he believes this character would not fit into the new DCU plans: “I met[il presidente dei DC Studios]James Gunn about it. It’s going to completely reboot the DC Universe, it’s going to start fresh with young people and I think you have to do that. I think to revive the DC Universe, you have to start from scratch, with younger actors. You need to start planning for the next 15 years and I don’t think you can do that with me. And I understand that.”

Bautista not only understands Gunn’s decision, but explains that he doesn’t want to be a part of something he can’t live up to: “I don’t want to play a character that I can’t do justice to. I feel like at this point in my career I can’t do Bane justice. I don’t know if I could get away with the physical part and I don’t think I’m old enough to plan these films.”
