The mint he’s one of my favorite characters of all time. I loved the creator Ben Edlundcomics of the early 90s, I was a huge fan of the original animated series and even enjoyed the two live-action shows that were developed. But that animated show was simply the best ever. That series made me laugh out loud every time I watched it.
They did a lot of hilarious stuff with that series and the comedy was just off the charts. It also has the greatest quotes ever! I’ve never seen anything like it since it was released. A few projects have attempted to emulate it, but nothing has really been able to do what The Tick did.
However, during a recent interview with /Film, one of the show’s writers, Henry Gilroy (Tiny Toon Adventures, Batman: The Animated Series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars), shared a scene he wrote for the show that was cut because it was too over the top for the network.
This scene was from the first episode Gilroy worked on for the series, and was titled “The Tick vs. The Uncommon Cold” and contained a snot-based joke that made network executives rethink their lives.
In the episode, an oozing dimension-crossing supervillain called Thrakkorzog clones the Tick in a plot to take over the world. The Tick’s clone was made of slimy mucus, and the only way The Tick could defeat this monstrosity was by sucking the mucus clone up his nose and then sneezing it into an interdimensional portal.
Well, talking about what part of that needed to be cut out, Gilroy explained: “I think there was a close-up of a quivering nostril, with mucus coming out of it. It was disgusting. They say, ‘That’s probably too much. That’s too disgusting. .'” So he didn’t make the final cut. With everything he’s done on this show, that’s what got cut!? Oh well, it was still a great episode! You can watch it below if you want!
