BET and CBS News will launch a primetime newsmagazine series next month, America in blackfeaturing segments with Gayle King and other news figures, and the return of Ed Gordon.
The monthly series will air on February 19 at 10:00 pm. ET on BET and VH1 and will be available on platforms including the CBS News Streaming Network.
The focus is on investigative reports, interviews with newsmakers and celebrity profiles.
Michelle Miller, Jericka Duncan, Vladimir Duthiers, Marc Lamont Hill, Wesley Lowery, Errol Barnett, Danya Bacchus and Skyler Henry will also contribute to the series.. Gordon returns after 18 years and will be a celebrity correspondent.
Alvin Patrick, executive producer of CBS News, which streams Originals and Race and Culture, said the series will “address the complexities of the Black experience with compelling storytelling that has always been the hallmark of CBS News.” Connie Orlando, Executive Vice President of Specials, Music Programming and Music Strategy, said the series “offers unique opportunities to address contemporary issues that most affect our community, from the censoring of black history in schools to the use of rap lyrics in criminal proceedings.”
The series is produced by Jason Samuels for BET and Patrick for CBS News.
