BARBARIAN director Zach Cregger’s next film is WEAPONS and New Line has won the rights

After the director Zach Cregger’S Barbarian became a huge hit, fans of the film wondered what Cregger’s next project would be. Well, that project has been revealed and it’s a new horror movie titled Weapons.

As soon as the project was revealed, a bidding war broke out in Hollywood and eventually New Line Cinema won the right, and apparently that’s a big deal. The deal is said to “seem unprecedented in modern times, especially for a filmmaker with essentially only one film under his belt.”

The exact number hasn’t been revealed, but it’s an eight-figure deal for the filmmaker to write and direct Weapons. It is explained that the numbers are more than double the entire budget of Barbarianwhich is pretty incredible.

The film is guaranteed a green light, and Cregger is in control of the final cut, waiting for a threshold to be hit during test screenings. There is also a controlling interest in a backend pot. Then, of course, there’s the guarantee of a theatrical release. So, the pressure is on for Cregger to make a great second film!

New Line President and CCO Richard Brener said in a statement, “Zach has demonstrated with Barbarian which can create a visceral theatrical experience for the audience and which controls every tool in the director’s tool belt. We couldn’t be happier with him, Roy [Lee] and Miri [Yoon]and JD [Lifshitz]and Raffi [Margules] has chosen New Line as the home of his next film and I hope it will be the first of many to come.

There are no plot details to share Weaponsbut is described as “an interconnected multi-story horror epic that’s tonally in the vein of Magnoliathe 1999 showcase filled with the director’s actors Paul Thomas Anderson.’“

The report goes on to state that if things go well with this project, “one goal would be for Cregger to become a significant horror voice and supplier for the Warners/New Line film factory.”
