Daisy Ridley shares her thoughts on the message conveyed through Rey’s lineage in STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER

The Star Wars the films are a mixture of loved and hated, deciphered and separated, all debated and revisited. While the most recent trilogy, consisting of The force awakens, The Last JediAnd The Rise of SkywalkerDisappointed fans due to his lack of consistency, one of his stars is adamant that there was solid morals conveyed through his character.

Daisy Ridleywho played Rey in the films, was revealed to be the descendant of Emperor Palpatine in the final film, but despite his lineage, his goodness prevailed, and he still feels this was an important lesson.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Ridley opened up about the storyline, saying:

“Well, JJ [Abrams] it was the one that said “She’s nobody’s,” so it wasn’t just The Last Jedi where that was the message. What’s interesting about the last one, to me, is that you can be a hero and come from nowhere or you can be a hero and come from literally the worst person in the universe. You are not your parents, you are not your grandparents, you are not your bloodline and you are not the generations before you. So, I always thought, ‘Sure.’ But it’s beyond my pay grade. I say the words, do the thing. I love the version of, you can be whoever you want to be, but I also love the version where you can right the wrongs and you can’t live without what you were born into.”

I also appreciate this part of the story. It’s a good takeaway, even if the film and its bigger picture have problems.
