In this last stretch of January, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has published the official list of all the nominees for the eagerly awaited Oscars 2023, the awards that recognize the best cinema of the year, and on this occasion three Mexicans are competing to obtain this illustrious statuette.
The first of them, and probably the one that everyone has been waiting for, is the director Guillermo del Torowho with his film ‘Pinocchio’, released on Netflix at the end of 2022, caused a sensation, because the artist showed a version of this fairy tale for children that is closer to the original story and which completely distances itself from the adaptation made by Disney in the 40s.

The second half of 2022 has given us two new films on Netflix from two well-known Mexican filmmakers, given that, in addition to Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Pinocchio’, the streaming giant has also released ‘Pinocchio’Bard’ by Alejandro González Iñárritua title that has now surprised many by being nominated for the Hollywood Academy Award in 2023.
