This is what drama films have, they can make us feel many emotions, from disappointing us to making us feel good. And since some of them understand that emotions are not absolutes, but a journey of understanding, there are some stories that have the ability to make you feel happy and nostalgic at the same time with great ease.

In that sense, one of the the best films that evoke happiness and nostalgia is ‘Aftersun’, the directorial debut of Charlotte Wells, starring Paul Mescal and Frankie Corio. She is about a girl who reflects on a melancholy vacation she took with her father 20 years ago, in which she wonders how much of what she remembers is real and the rest imaginary. Pinocchio

Although the story was already known to many, Guillermo del Toro put a touching twist on 2022’s ‘Pinocchio’, a movie that can make you feel happy and nostalgic at the same time. It’s a stop-motion animation about an old carpenter who loses his only son, but who is reincarnated into a wooden boy who doesn’t love him very much. Available on Netflix.

Always by your side

But if we talk about drama movies to make you feel happy and sad, aka ‘Always by your side’, directed by Lasse Hallstrom. Richard Gere is the protagonist of this story in which he brings to life the owner of an adorable puppy, who always waits for his master at the train station, every time he comes back from work, to brighten up all his days. The limit of seventeen

Dramatic comedies have that ability to make the viewer experience multiple feelings at the same time. As well as ‘The Edge of Seventeen’, directed by Kelly Fremon and starring Hailee Steinfeld and Woody Harrelson. It is a story where two high school friends start having friction with each other when one of them finds out that the other has started dating his brother. Available on Netflix.

Directed by John Carney, we have a romantic musical like “Sing Street”, with Ferdia Walsh Peelo, Jack Reynor and Lucy Boynton. The story is set in Dublin in the 80s, where a boy has several problems in his family and also at school. One day he decides to form a rock band to try to fit in, and incidentally he talks to the girl he likes. Available on HBOMax.

Jojo Rabbit

Taika Waititi is a director who knows how to perfectly juggle the sad line and the happy one. And to show his film he also stars with Scarlett Johansson and Roman Griffin, ‘Jojo Rabbit’ with which he won an Oscar. The story follows a boy who joins the Hitler Youth, only to find his mother hiding a Jewish girl in her attic. Available on Star+.
