Russians set the main goal for the New Year

It seems that the main item on the wish list of many Russians by 2026 is not the gifts under the tree, but the minus on the scales. According to RIA Novosti, 35 percent of Russians plan to lose weight by the holiday.

The main reason for this is the autumn weight gained by 38% of participants. In second place is the desire to celebrate the New Year with a beautiful body (32% answered this way), and the first three motivations are closed by an item familiar to many: 27% want to lose weight in advance so that they can enjoy Olivier salad and cakes at New Year’s banquets without regrets.

1.5 thousand people participated in the survey across the country. Almost half reported being overweight (44%) and 18% reported being obese. At the same time, only 21% of respondents have a tight or athletic body, and only 6% consider themselves skinny.

Russians have different diets and approaches to losing weight. More than 60% of respondents try to eat right, increase the amount of protein and complex carbohydrates, do sports, eliminate sugar and flour. The rest are looking for alternative ways: buying smartwatches, detoxing, or promising themselves “not to touch the mayonnaise salad until the bells ring.”

By the way, we have previously written about why diets do not work. See the 10 main rules to stay slim.
