JACKSON’S ROCK GODS, TENNESSEE! is a wild new graphic novel about rampaging and battling monsters

Dark Horse Books has a new graphic novel coming out that sounds like some out-of-this-world fun, The Rock Gods of Jackson, Tennessee. Written by Rafer Roberts with art of Mike Nortoncolorist Allen Passalaquaand letter Crank!the new story features a band of high school misfits who must learn to play together in order to fulfill their dreams of fame, freedom and popularity.

Set in 1989, young offender Marty Ward never wanted to join the Rock Gods, a band made up of nerds Jonny, Lenny and Doug. But when the high schoolers get the gig of a lifetime, opening for local rock legend Tommi Tungstun, Marty changes his tune. The only thing standing in their way are their parents, teachers, a school full of jerks and bullies, bad bosses, self-righteous preachers, corrupt politicians, each other, and a rampaging horde of mutant monsters tearing Jackson apart and they eat everything in their path. Go easy.

“This is the comic I was born to do,” Roberts says. “ROCK GODS is incredibly weird and a little scary, but it’s also weirdly tender and thoughtful.” This story combines action, adventure, horror and humor and looks like an incredibly fun story to read. It also definitely feels like a comic that could use a great soundtrack to go with it, so while this obviously isn’t going to come with an official one, make sure you have a good 80s rock playlist to listen to while reading.
