James Gunn and Peter Safran surprised DC Comics fans when they canceled many of the company’s biggest projects to start from scratch with a new extended universe. Such was the impact that rumors claimed that Dwayne Johnson pitched a plan to DC to save “Black Adam”, however, he flatly denied it.
In an interview for CNBC’s Squawk on the Street (via The Direct), Dwayne Johnson has denied the rumors of his plan with ‘Black Adam’, in which he was said to want to save his character from a fate that Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot and Ben Affleck have also suffered. The ‘Fast and Furious’ actor simply responded by saying the reports were “not true.”
When asked about it in a chat with Variety, Dwayne Johnson said his plans presented to DC were just rumorsIn a chat with Variety’s Morgan Brennan: “I had a great meeting with David Zaslav, me and my business partner Dany Garcia. She and I walked in, sat down with David, and didn’t have a 10-year plan at all. What was our meeting about the future and how we can build across the Warner Bros and Discovery platform.”
However, Dwayne Johnson discovered the rumors about ‘Black Adam’, and “let them go”, demonstrating “discipline” in order not to give in to speculation: “you want to be careful of what the media puts you in the mud. Now, this is not a generic criticism. But you want to be careful with this […] it was difficult to exercise that kind of discipline. Just to get these reports out.”

Will ‘Black Adam 2’ Starring Dwayne Johnson Be Released?
Right now, things aren’t confirmed for “Black Adam” in the DC Universe, however, things aren’t looking encouraging for Dwayne Johnson’s franchise. And it is that James Gunn and Peter Safran are a few days away from the launch of the future plan of the EUDC, in which they will present films, series for HBO, video games and animations that will enter the canon of the universe.
However, “Black Adam 2” remains a project that will most likely have no place in the company, especially with the discontent generated by Johnson and the pressure exerted on Warner. But ultimately there’s nothing written and it wouldn’t be surprising if the anti-hero gets one last chance to prove his strength on the big screen.
The only sure thing so far is that we will have to wait a few more days before we find out what James Gunn and Peter Safran have in store for the DC Extended Universe, and what they will completely cancel from their roadmap, never to see it again on the big screen.
