Apple TV+ has released a new trailer for Dear Edward and comes from the manufacturer of Friday night lights And Parenting, Jason Katims. He’s been able to pull together some great projects that have moved audiences to tears, and it looks like he’s doing it again with this new series.
Dear Edward is based on Ann Napolitano’s 2020 novel of the same name and the film is described as “a heartbreaking, life-affirming and uplifting story about survival, resilience, connection, and examining what makes us human.”
According to a New York Times profile of the author, the book is inspired by the harrowing true story of a young Dutch boy who was the sole survivor of the crash of Afriqiyah Airways Flight 771 in Libya in 2010. “Napolitano’s story imagines the consequences of a similar story, in which Edward is the only person to save himself from a plane crash.
It is explained that “as Edward and a diverse group of others affected by the tragedy try to make sense of life after the accident, unexpected friendships, romances and communities form”. The series is the protagonist Connie Britton, Taylor Schilling, Colin O’Brien, Amy Forsyth, Eva Ariel Binder, Brittany S. Hall, Idris Debrand, Carter Hudson, Maxwell Jenkins, Jenna Qureshi, Audrey Corsa, Anna Uzele, Ivan Shaw And Dario Ladani Sanchez.
Katims spoke about trying not to cry while the series was being edited: “The embarrassing thing for me was standing in the editing rooms, watching cuts of the show and starting to feel emotional in front of the editor and then I try not to cry, because it’s ridiculous to cry in front [an editor] on the words you wrote. So I’m trying not to cry, and in trying not to cry, then these noises come out… it’s happened to me quite a bit.
Here is the description from the book:
One summer morning, 12-year-old Edward Adler, his beloved older brother, his parents, and 183 other passengers board a flight in Newark bound for Los Angeles. Among them are a Wall Street whiz, a young woman dealing with an unexpected pregnancy, an injured vet returning from Afghanistan, a septuagenarian business tycoon, and a free-spirited woman on the run from her domineering husband. . And then, tragically, the plane crashes. Edward is the only survivor.
Edward’s story captures the nation’s attention, but he struggles to find a place for himself in a world without his family. He continues to feel that a piece of him has remained in the sky, forever tied to the plane and to all his traveling companions. But then he makes an unexpected discovery, one that leads him to the answers to some of life’s deepest questions: when you’ve lost everything, how do you find yourself again? How do you discover your purpose? What does it mean not just to survive, but to truly live?
The first three episodes of Dear Edward will premiere on Apple TV+ on Friday, February 3, 2023.
