It is the end of an era and the beginning of a new one.
Starz confirmed Foreigner returns for an eighth and final 10-episode season to follow the upcoming 16-episode extended season 7 of the hit drama, premiering this summer. And while fans will surely be disappointed that Claire (Caitríona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) will end Frasier’s adventures through time and space, the series’ prequel series blood from my blood has been greenlit by Starz and will consist of 10 episodes.
“Stranger: Blood of my blood is essentially a love story,” said showrunner and executive producer Matthew B. Roberts. “It explores how far one will go to find love in an era when love is considered a luxury and marriages are strategic, often for political or financial gain. The title is a nod to Jamie Fraser’s vows to Claire and there will be several names and faces Foreigner Fans will know and recognize this. Jamie and Claire’s TV story may be coming to an end with Season 8, but Diana continues her literary journey in her amazing book series and is busy working on book ten. With Jamie and Claire and now Brian and Ellen, there is so much more to come Foreigner universe, and we can’t wait to continue sharing these stories with our loyal fans.”

News of the new project began buzzing in the summer of 2021, with the network confirming it was in development last August. Based on the novel by Diana Gabaldon, blood from my blood delve into the love story of Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser.
Roberts, who is also showrunner and executive producer of the flagship series, will serve as showrunner and EP. Maril Davis will also direct the prequel with Moore, who developed Foreigner for television under their production banner, Tall Ship Productions. Story Mining & Supply Company will also make an EP with Gabaldon, whose novels inspired the franchise and who served as consulting producer.
Executive producers are Roberts, Moore, Davis, Toni Graphia, Luke Schelhaas, Andy Harries, Jim Kohlberg, Balfe and Heughan Foreigner, which is produced by Tall Ship Productions, Left Bank Pictures and Story Mining & Supply Company in association with Sony Pictures Television.
blood from my blood is produced by Sony Pictures Television. EVP of original programming Karen Bailey will oversee the prequel on behalf of Starz.
