Some years ago Vin Diesel shared a video from the set of James Cameron’S Avatars sequel and sparked reports that the Fast and Furious actor may be joining the Avatar sequels.
In the video, Cameron said, “Okay, so here we are on the set of Avatars 2, 3, 4And 5. It’s top secret, it’s like the Manhattan Project.” Then he joked: “My old friend Vin, and we’re actually going to give him the flashy thing to Men in black when he leaves here, so he has no recollection.
Diesel added, “You’ve never seen that. But I’ll tell you, it’s long overdue. There’s a person in Hollywood that I’ve always wanted to work with and learn from.”
So obviously people assumed that he was going to play a part in these sequels. But it turns out that’s not the case. Producer Jon Landau recently confirmed with Empire that Diesel won’t appear in any of the sequels. He said, “Vin was a fan. He came in, he visited the set one day to see what we were doing and people took that out of context.
Alright, the Avatar franchise doesn’t really need Diesel, it’ll be fine without him. Diesel is currently filming the final two installments of the Fast and Furious franchise. I have no idea what Diesel will do next.
Speaking about the future of the Avatar franchise, Landau went on to say, “I hope The Way Of Water has come to its conclusion, as I think any film will. But they organize things because we are more and more involved with these characters. Where is Kiri going? What is Lo’ak up to? What decisions will Jake and Neytiri have to make? All of these things will continue to drive our story.”
Cameron’s plan consisted of four Avatar sequels in all, with three still to come. He might even make a couple more! Regardless, this is going to be a very successful franchise and I think Cameron will tell as many Avatar stories as he wants.
