The premiere of ‘The Last of Us’ marked one of the biggest releases in the history of the HBO platform, ranking second, only behind ‘House of the Dragon’. And although Joel and Ellie’s adventure has only just begun, the creator of the show talked about the intense introductory scene, which he had to change from the video game.

In a recent interview for ComicBook, Craig Mazin, showrunner of ‘The Last of Us’ explained what the beginning looked like “bored”, because it had to be one of the key moments to introduce the audience to this story. The creator of the HBO series explained that his introduction to the story should be different from that of the video game, and that the sequence would clarify why the world has come to such a point, but not as a documentary.

Craig Mazin mentions it proposed the beginning of ‘The Last of Us’ twice “The first time I presented it, [al co-showrunner Neil Druckmann] he was like “ehh”, or we can do the video. It’s Planet Earth, you can see this beautiful demonstration of how Cordyceps works, how it takes over an ant. It tells you everything you need to know. What we decided was to make our own video.

The Introduction of ‘The Last of Us’ It was one of the scariest moments of the premiere., because they explain that the origin of a global crisis that could be caused by a fungus. However, the first ideas didn’t work out the way they wanted: “It was something boring to watch. It was a bit like we were in a social science class. The Terrifying Beginning of ‘The Last of Us’

So it was that, four weeks after filming wrapped, Craig Mazin came up with the idea of presenting the beginning of the story of Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. Unlike the video game, the scene where the TV presenter interviews scientists about the origin of a global crisis was quickly approved by Neil Druckmann.

For those who haven’t seen the episode, there are minor spoilers. Well, the same showrunners have explained that they do not want to bring the story of ‘The Last of Us’ to the same mistakes made in ‘Game of Thrones’, where the plot was extended to seasons that were no longer based on the work of George RR Martin. And they want the same with Joel and Ellie’s journey, not to extend beyond the second video game.

This means that, if it works until the end of the season, “The Last of Us” could have a second installment, where the second part of the video game is reached. But until then, we will have to see the following episodes that will arrive during the next 8 Sundays.
