In the speech she gave when she took the stage to accept her award, the actress criticized the formula followed in the film industry for choosing the person awarded at each ceremony: “It’s extremely arbitrary considering how many incredible performances have been given by women not just in this room, but, you know… in the amazing creative conversation. I can’t believe it’s up here. It’s absurd, I’m very old. Why don’t we just say that there are many female performances that are consonant and dialogue with each other? And stop all this televised horse racing. I can tell you that every single woman…in TV, in movies, in commercials, in tampon ads, you name it, is doing amazing work that inspires me all the time. Thank you, I share it with all of you.”

Blanchett, who also won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Drama for her role in ‘Tar,’ explained in an interview at the Critics Choice Awards gala that she believes there is another way to reward performers. for their work. She did so by acknowledging the work of the “Tar” team and the rest of the nominated actresses: “Nobody wins one of these awards without a whole army of people making the film…and I think there’s a different way to celebrate performance. We are all part of the industry, we influence each other. All the actresses were challenged and pushed to the limit.”
