‘6 in the shade’: Italian authorities sue Michael Bay for killing a pigeon on set

The film industry is full of light and dark, time and time again the audience discovers the dark secret of a person in this industry, thus creating a new theme of the moment. Some of these secrets are serious, but there is also space to talk about how surreal the situation is, that they make people laugh and end up being counted at family meals. This is the case of Michael Bay, known for directing films such as ‘Transformers’ or ‘Bad Boys’, accused by the Italian authorities and accused of killing a pigeon in his country.

In 2018, Bay was in Rome on the set of the Netflix action film ‘6 in the Shadows’. A source at The Wrap with information about the project’s recordings points out that, in one of the sequences, a pigeon was run over by a wheelbarrow and killed. An anonymous person witnessed the incident, took a photo and contacted the Italian police. This animal is a protected species in Italy, they have a national law which states that it is illegal to harm, kill or capture any wild bird, including pigeons. Furthermore, this animal is also protected in the European Union under the Birds Directive. As director of the film, the onus falls on Bay, who has denied the allegations: “I am known to be an animal lover and activist. No animals involved in the filming have been harmed or harmed in any of the productions I have worked on in the past 30 years.”

The director of ‘6 in the shadow’ not only denies the allegations, but also explains that he has arguments in his favor: “We have clear video evidence, multitudes of witnesses and security agents exempting us from these claims. They belie the only paparazzi photo, which tells a false story.” Bay says the matter is far from a simple anecdote, that there’s a legal case going on, which is why he can’t go into detail. He is confident, he believes he will win the trial.

Have been with this for a while

Bay and her legal team tried three different times to get the case out of court, but were unsuccessful. The director reveals that they gave him the option to pay a fine and forget about it, but he didn’t because he would have given them the reason: “The Italian authorities have offered me the possibility to resolve this case by paying a small finebut I refused to do so because I would not plead guilty to harming an animal.”
