Head FX John Landgraf recently offered an update during his TCA panel that the Alien the series will officially begin filming this year when it’s done with Fargo’s fifth season.
Landgraf said, “Noah is currently in production on Season 5 of Fargo but is in active pre-production on Alien, has written scripts. She added, “I think she’ll be meeting with her production designer in Austin this weekend, preparing for production this year after completing Season 5 of Fargo.”
The story for Hawley’s Alien “It takes place before Ripley. It is the first story set in the Alien on Earth franchise. It has also been revealed that it will be set near “the end of this century that we’re in, so 70-odd years from now.”
It was also shared that it will mix “both the timeless horror of the first Alien film with the non-stop action of the second, it will be a scary thrill ride that will have people going back to their seats.”
Landgraf also reminded us that “Ripley won’t be a part of it or any of the other characters in Alien other than the alien itself.”
Hawley has spoken about the series in the past, saying, “It’s about how we’re trapped between the primal past and the artificial intelligence of our future, where both [are] trying to kill us. It is set on the Earth of the future. Right now, I describe it as Edison versus Westinghouse versus Tesla. Someone will monopolize electricity. We just don’t know what it is.”
He went on to say, “It’s a story set on Earth as well. Alien stories are always trapped… Trapped in a prison, trapped in a spaceship. I thought it would be interesting to open it up a bit so that the stakes of ‘What if you can’t contain it?’ they are more immediate”.
I think Hawley is going to deliver a really big one Alien series, and I’m excited to see how it turns out.
