Like every year, when these dates roll around, it’s time to put on your tuxedo and start enjoying awards season. The Golden Globes celebrate their 80th anniversary in 2023 and also leave us part of a long list of winners moments to remember and comment on.

Among these the one starring the multidisciplinary Eddie Murphy, actor, comedian, producer, singer, screenwriter and showman who collects the Cecil B. DeMille Award in this edition Awarded by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. This award was created to honor the journey of notable people through American cinema each year.

During Murphy’s two-and-a-half minute speech, the actor thanked his wife, children and friends from around the world for their unconditional support. Not forgetting his hilarious personality, Murphy wanted to share his as well three keys to success: “I want you to know that there is an ultimate plan that you can follow to achieve success, prosperity, longevity, and peace of mind. It’s a plan that I’ve followed throughout my career. It’s very simple, you just have to do three things: pay taxes, take care of your own business and keep Will Smith’s wife’s name out of your fucking mouth.”he concluded the speech, arousing the laughter of the stellar audience present in the stalls.

With this reference to Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars, after the second joke about alopecia suffered by Jada Pinkett Smith (Smith’s partner and also an actress), Murphy concluded his speech for the awards for which he has been nominated up to six times. A whole life dedicated to comedy in which, as Carmen Machi would say: “What a surprise to win an award for making people laugh”words the actress said when she won the Goya for best supporting actress in 2015.

Who was DeMille and who won his award?

DeMille was a successful producer in the American film industry. His work shone during the first half of the 20th century, making masterpieces such as ‘The Ten Commandments’ or ‘The Greatest Show on Earth’, the latter of which won the Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Picture in the season 1953. The award he names after began distribution in 1952, seven years before his death, since then 70 balloons have been distributed as a way to honor the trajectory and good work of the gifted with said prize. In this list of winners are Walt Disney, Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, Jane Fonda, Doris Day, Al Pacino, Harrison Ford, Woody Allen, Martin Scorsese or Anthony Hopkins among others.

This is just a selection of ten personalities who have been awarded this prize, a symbolic prize to the trajectory of people who have dedicated their lives and energy to making movies and thereby making the lives of millions of people much happier.
