It’s not every day you turn 80. But for the Foreign Press Association of Hollywood, such an anniversary is much more special because it marks their comeback after being “punished” by the industry last year.. NBC decided not to broadcast the ceremony in 2022 after a series of controversies cast a dark shadow over the HFPA, starting with the idea that the organization of journalists did not reflect the reality of today’s world at all (little representation non-Caucasian, few females, very old age). Then came the “bribes” and other controversies that led Hollywood to turn its back on what was until now considered “the prelude to the Oscars”.

After having made, they say, the appropriate changes and having invited a large number of new members to renew the organization, the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles was once again the setting for the film and series awards ceremony, which this was once hosted by Jerrod Carmichael. Honorary awards went to Eddie Murphy (Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award in Motion Picture) and Ryan Murphy (Carol Burnett Lifetime Achievement Award in Small Screen).

In cinema, the big winners were ‘Los Fabelman’ and ‘Almas en tormento de Inisherin’, taking the statuettes for the best film. Steven Spielberg also got Best Director and Martin McDonagh’s film returned to the stage winning Best Screenplay and Best Actor, Musical or Comedy for Colin Farrell. “All at Once Everywhere” won two awards for its lead duo. And Cate Blanchett can already make room for another Oscar.

in series, HBO had a very good night with awards for ‘House of the Dragon’, ‘The White Lotus’ and Zendaya. ‘Abbott College’ continues to get all A’s with the award for Best Comedy Series. And “Better Call Saul” greeted Bob Odenkirk without a last prize.
