‘1899’ ends on Netflix after being canceled after one season

Netflix pulled out the scythe very early this year, and it does so with one of the series in the last stretch of 2022 that aimed higher. ‘1899’, the series of the creators of ‘Dark’, will not be able to finish the story that they had planned to last three seasons because the streaming platform has decided to cancel it with only one season released.

‘1899’ ends on Netflix after being canceled after one season

Baran bo Odar, creator of ‘1899’ together with Jantje Friese, broke the bad news on Instagram with the following message: “It is with a heavy heart that we have to tell you that “1899” will not be renewed. We would have loved to wrap up this incredible journey with Seasons 2 and 3 like we did with ‘Dark’. But sometimes things don’t go as planned. This is life. We know this will disappoint millions of fans. But we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being part of this wonderful adventure. we love you. Never forget. Bo & Jantje”.

The truth is that ‘1899’ had a great premiere, being only surpassed by ‘The Crown’ on its platform debut. However, the maintenance and conversation in the following weeks must not have met the expectations of Netflix, which probably expected another phenomenon like ‘Dark’. This was indicated by the investment, charged with inaugurating the largest virtual film set in Europe.

Shipwreck

‘1899’ told the story of a ship loaded with people from all over our continent who set sail in search of a new life on the other side of the Atlantic. But soon the journey will take a much more mysterious turn… whose unknowns unfortunately we will not see resolved. In the cast we find actors of all nationalities, such as our Miguel Bernardeau, Andreas Pietschmann or Emily Beecham.
