Having starred in three seasons as pediatric surgeon Cormac Hayes, Richard Flood talks about his sudden and controversial exit from ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ in season 18 of the hit ABC medical drama, after working closely with the cast played by Ellen Pompeo for 3 years.
It is not the first time that one of the protagonists of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ disappears from the show suddenly and without apparent explanation, as in the case of Justin Chambers who for more than a decade was Dr. Alex Karev until one day he stopped appearing in the series and his farewell took place through some letters sent to the main characters .
In interview for Deadlinethe actor Riccardo Flood revealed his case wasn’t like Justin Chambers, who quit ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ to have some peace of mind in his life, but that the decision about his exit from the medical drama was something that had already been discussed before that they begin recording season 18 and also during the production of the episodes.
They found the exit. I didn’t know until we were shooting how this was actually going to happen, but there were some conversations over the summer,” the ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ actor explained.

However, actor Richard Flood does not specify a clear reason for his departure from ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, although he clarifies that there is no controversy behind it, simply that his character has completed an arc in his history and has come the moment to that his job at Gray + Sloan would be over once and for all.
On the other hand, Richard Flood adds that he is very happy to have participated as one of the protagonists of this famous series abc: “Having three years on the show felt good to me, and I think the character arc with all the story developments was probably coming to a natural end,” so he walks away proud of his time on ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’ .
Dr. Cormac Hayes could return to Grey’s Anatomy
As there is no controversial reason behind Richard Flood’s exit from ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, the door remains open for the possibility of seeing this pediatrician again in the ABC series as many other characters had their return to the series as well as guest characters in special chapters.
However, given how the story of Dr. Cormac Hayes has ended, it seems unlikely that Richard Flood will be in ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ any time soon, so we would have to wait a few years to see if this can happen in the story and as of now there is nothing left of it, a more to wait for Gray + Sloan Hospital to get a new chief pediatrician.
