After forensic tests, James Cameron is making a special on TITANIC to prove that Jack would not have survived

Over the past 25 years, fans of the director James CameronThe Oscar-winning film Titanic they had a major problem with the film that they were very vocal about sharing with Cameron. The big problem is that at the end of the movie, Leonardo Dicaprio’s Jack treads water in the freezing ocean next door Kate Winslet’s Rose, who is inexplicably wearing a life jacket while taking the entire piece of driftwood that is keeping her out of the water. This wooden slab feels quite spacious, and it seems Rose could have moved a bit to make room for her icy boyfriend, saving him from her ultimate death, and fans have been debating this since the movie was released. But could it even have worked?

There was also a Catch me episode where they tested the theory of Jack sharing the wooden raft, and concluded that Jack and Rose could have survived if they had taken their only life jacket and somehow strapped it under the raft, giving them enough superior buoyancy to stay afloat. Cameron ended up saying the results of the experiment were “full of shit.”

Now James Cameron is trying to end the debate once and for all. In a recent interview with Post Media (via the Toronto Sun), promote Avatar: The Way of WaterCameron said he’s making a new documentary special that will really test that hypothesis:

“We have since done a thorough forensic analysis with a hypothermia expert who reproduced the Raft from the film and will be doing a little special on it which comes out in February. We took two stuntmen who had the same body mass as Kate and Leo and put sensors on and in them and put them in ice cold water and tested to see if they could survive through a variety of methods and the response was, there was no way either of them could survive. Only one could survive.

It will be premiered in congruence with the remaster Titanic, which hits theaters this Valentine’s Day 2023. It seems Cameron is hell-bent on proving him right, so he seems a little biased. I think he should invite the Catch me to his experiment to keep it honest. What do you think?
