James Cameron says Matt Damon still regrets turning down AVATAR, but tells him to ‘get over it’

Matt Damon (Hunting for goodwill, The Martian) is an Academy Award-winning writer and multiple Academy Award-nominated actor with many films and roles in his career that have impacted his fans. Some of my favorite lesser known Matt Damon movies are School ties, Stuck on you, From now onand We bought a zoo. But Damon has a role that he considers “the one who got away”.

We reported ten years ago that Damon was sorry he couldn’t act James Cameron’S Avatars. It’s a film he’s continued to mourn over the years, and James Cameron recently talked about Damon “fighting himself” about the part in an interview with BBC 1 Radio, with Cameron teasing:

“Matt, you know, you’re kind of one of the biggest movie stars in the world. Forget it.”

Yeah, I get where Damon’s coming from, but also, it’s not like this is the movie that was going to be his big break, or his only chance at stardom. Damon has done really well for himself, and I think he’s been able to do other great movies instead of this series.

What do you think? Do you think Matt Damon would have been good as Jake, or do you think it was on purpose? Sam Worthington?
