The Walvis’ Brendan Fraser receives the Spotlight Award from the Palm Springs Fest

Brendan Fraser receives the Spotlight Award, Actor at the Palm Springs Film Festival Awards Ceremony held in person at the Palm Springs Convention Center on January 5th. The award recognizes the actor’s performance in the award-winning A24 drama The whale by filmmaker Darren Aronofsky.

The presumptive Oscar nominee joins a list of Spotlight Award winners including thrombosisby Bryan Cranston and metal saw burr‘s Andrew Garfield, both of whom were Academy Award nominees for their respective projects.

Other previously announced awards from this year’s Palm Springs Film Awards include tars Cate Blanchett, (Desert Palm Achievement Award, actress), elvis‘s Austin Butler (Breakthrough Performance Award, actor), The queen of womens Viola Davis (President’s Award), To‘s Danielle Deadwyler (Breakthrough Performance Award, actress), The Banshees by Inisherin‘s Colin Farrell (Desert Palm Achievement Award, actor), Life‘s Bill Nighy (International Star Award, actor), women talk Filmmaker Sarah Polley (Director of the Year Award) and Eeverything everywhere at once‘s Michelle Yeoh (International Star Award) and Steven Spielberg’s semi-autobiographical feature film, The Fables (Avantgarde Prize).

In The whale, Fraser plays Charlie, a reclusive English teacher living with severe obesity who reconnects with his estranged teenage daughter Ellie (Sadie Sink) for one last chance at redemption. Based on the critically acclaimed play by Samuel D. Hunter, who adapted the screenplay, the film also stars Hong Chau, Ty Simpkins and Samantha Morton. Pic received a seven-minute standing ovation after its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival and also earned Fraser a TIFF Tribute Award for Achievement, as well as nominations for Golden Globe, Gotham, Critics’ Choice Awards and other awards . December 9.

Fraser has a career spanning over three decades and is best known for his portrayal of Rick O’Connell in The Mummy Trilogy and for movies like Journey to the center of the earth, crashing down, Enchanted, George of the Jungle, glory bewildered, air heads, school bands and Encino man, among many others. Notable TV credits include Doom Patrol, condor, confidence, The affair and scrub.

Other upcoming projects of the actor are the comedy by Max Barbakow brothers for the crime drama created by Legendary and Martin Scorsese Killer of the Flower Moon for apple.
