The original host of Blue’s Clues, Steve Burns, recently revealed that his co-star, Donovan Patton, stepped in and cared for him while he was sick with COVID.
The 49-year-old actor told PEOPLE that he and Patton — who took over hosting the children’s show when Burns left in 2002 — “have been friends for a long time.”
Burns continued, “I know his family. He took care of me when I had COVID. He drove Gatorade down the hall to his guest room for me.”

Patton, 44, happened to have COVID before Burns, so he knew the symptoms all too well.
As they both got better, the old friends ventured to New York City to film the Blue’s Clues movie titled Blue’s Big City Adventure.
During their free time in New York, they would go to the set to watch Blue’s Clues’ newest host, Joshua Dela Cruz, film his scenes.
“It was fun to see what he was capable of,” Patton said of Dela Cruz. And then I was surprised at how it was translated into the film because I didn’t know how it was going to end when I saw it,” he explained.
‘I was impressed. It filled me with the purest form of jealousy because this guy is insanely talented,” Patton said of Dela Cruz.
Patton, 44, took over from Burns in 2002 as Blues’ new boyfriend Joe when Burns left the series.

A Return: More than 20 years after his sudden departure from the hugely popular children’s series Blue’s Clues, Steve Burns reprized his role in the new Paramount Plus film Blue’s Big City Adventure, released last year.
Steve hosted the original Blue’s Clues from 1996 until his sudden departure in 2001 … where his character Steve suddenly left to go to college, leaving his brother Joe (Donovan Patton) with Blue.
Burns revealed in an interview after his departure: “I knew I wasn’t going to do children’s television for the rest of my life, especially because I refused to lose my hair on a children’s television show, and it happened quickly.”
He added that he shaved his head the day after filming his final episode – and revealed that the show’s producers would never let him do it.

Departure: Burns has hosted Blue’s Clues since its inception in 1995, although he left suddenly in 2001 and revealed in a later interview that he was going bald, explaining: ‘I refused to have my hair on a child – TV show to lose, and it happened, fast’

Musical: Steve uses a magnifying glass to look for clues outside his front door, along with a number of other musical scenes as the trailer comes to a close

Rejected: Burns revealed in an interview after his departure: “I knew I wasn’t going to do children’s television for the rest of my life, especially because I refused to lose my hair on a children’s television show, and it happened quickly.”
Burns returned as his beloved character Steve in Blue’s Big City Adventure, which was released last month on Paramount+.
The film follows Josh and Blue as they arrive in New York City for a Broadway audition, although they get lost and Mr. Salt goes looking for them and reunites with Steve and Joe, who both live in New York City.
Burns has also written and directed episodes of the new series and last year sent a heartfelt video to fans for the show’s 25th anniversary.
Blue’s Big City Adventure with performances by BD Wong, Phillipa Soo, Ali Stroker, Alex Winter and Steven Pasquale.

Sincerely, Burns returned for the Blue’s Clues & You revival and discussed the role of Josh Dela Cruz as Josh, who was Steve and Joe’s cousin
