The cause of the tragedy was discovered six months later.
Six months have passed since the tragic incident on the set of Rust, when Alec Baldwin pointed a fake gun at cameraman Galina Hutchins. The gun went off and the girl died.
The New Mexico Department of Environmental Protection has finally concluded its investigation, USAToday reports. The report found that the film company’s directors, who were aware of the failure to follow safety procedures, were to blame for everything. For example, weapons specialist Hannah Gutierrez was not allowed to be present on the set during the revolver scene.
The studios fined $139,793. Alec Baldwin was not charged.
“Our investigation has shown that this tragic incident would never have happened if Rust Movie Productions, LLC had followed the film industry’s national firearms safety standards,” environmental officer James Kenney said in a statement.
