More than two decades have passed since Princess Diana’s death. On August 31, 1997, the whole world came to a standstill. Nothing predicted that this would be the last day Lady Di would be seen alive, right as she was rebuilding her life away from the British Royal Family. The bridge of Alma de Paris was the enclave in which he lost his life with his partner, Dodi Al Fayed.
After what happened, there are several theories that have revolved around his death. The official version that everyone knows is that the Princess of Wales dined with the Egyptian businessman at the luxurious Ritz hotel in the French capital. After the evening, the couple got into a Mercedes S280 black they never got out. The vehicle hit a tunnel pole near the River Seine while trying to flee from the paparazzi. It was also pointed out in the final judgment that the driver was drunk behind the wheel the moment of impact.
Diana didn’t die instantly, but she did Al Fayed and the driver, Henri Paul. The princess was taken to the hospital of Pitié-Salpêtrière, where she lost her life hours later after several attempts to resuscitate her. In the midst of this tragedy that is still current after the filming of the series’ sixth and final season The crown where this episode will be covered, only one survivor survived: the bodyguard, Trevor Rees. However, and despite the fact that this story is official, there are several theories that suggest Diana Spencer’s death did not happen by accident. A conspiracy that still exists 25 years after his death.
A note came to light that allegedly the mother of Princes William and Harry had predicted their fatal outcome. In the letter he indicated that the current King of England, the King Carlos III planned to kill her in a car accident. This writing was delivered by Diana to her butler, Paul Burrell, ten months before her death. “I’m sitting here at my desk in October waiting for someone to hug me and help me stay strong and hold my head high. This particular phase of my life is the most dangerous. (…) My husband plans an accident with my car. A problem with his brakes and a serious head injury would clear the way for him to marry Tiggy (his children’s nanny). Camilla (Parker Bowles, current wife of Carlos) is nothing more than a trap. We are all used by this man in every sense of the word,” the letter read.
According to Mohamed Al-Fayed, Dodi’s father, he claimed Diana was pregnant at the time of the accident that killed her. Good news that would not be well received by the British Royal Family as “they could not accept that an Egyptian Muslim would one day be the stepfather of the future King of England” as William is the heir to the British throne after death of Queen Elizabeth II, who died on September 8 of the same year. Not everything was left in a simple statement by the businessman who had also lost his son, as he accused the monarchy and British intelligence of having caused the car accident. The official report from the British authorities said that “there is “overwhelming evidence that the Princess of Wales was not pregnant and did not believe that she was”. In addition, there is “no evidence of family, friends, confidants or others having princess connected over an announcement” of an engagement.
Another conspiracy theory pointed out that the route the car took from the Ritz Hotel to Dodi Al-Fayez’s apartment was not the usual one, as they should have taken an exit before entering the tunnel where the tragic episode that marked the history for always changed from the British Crown. According to this theory (which is not the official one), the participation of the British service would intervene on the orders of Prince Philip, the late Philip of Edinburgh. Although this hypothesis was just rumors.
There were so many theories circulating and still around that an investigation called Operation Paget was opened in 2004 to analyze the conspiracy theories surrounding the death of Diana of Wales. The first report appeared in December 2006 and another in 2008, in which a jury ruled involuntary manslaughter by the driver of the car and the paparazzi chasing the princess.
