It reveals it all: Robbie’s former bandmate Gary Barlow recently spoke of the intense “jealousy” he felt for his solo success after leaving Take That (pictured in 2021)

The singer, who at the time told Gary that she was slowly moving away from the “mother ship” and celebrating with Britpop stars, admitted that she was jealous of Robbie’s appearance.

He wrote: “I was a little jealous that it wasn’t me who stood up and said, ‘Love, I want to have some fun’. I’m a pop star, I’m going to act like that for a while”.

“None of us wanted to leave Take That, but if I saw someone else leaving, I – all of us – couldn’t help but consider taking the plunge.”

Robbie has enjoyed huge singles hits, topping the charts with numerous awards alongside number one singles such as Angels, She’s The One, Millennium, and Let Me Entertain You.

Meanwhile, in the years after Take That’s breakup, Gary was unable to imitate his former bandmate’s success as a solo artist, with the star climbing 16 stones and becoming a hermit on his 117-year-old estate.

Amid the embarrassment of gaining weight and the debacle of his solo album, Gary shared that he felt “choked with jealousy for my old bandmate Robbie,” reflecting on that dark period in his life.
