Urdangarin and Cristina’s ‘Last’ Summer

In July 1997, while still engaged, Cristina and Iñaki walked through the streets of Mallorca under the watchful eye of the most curious. The couple were seen around the island as two more tourists, trying not to attract the attention of the citizens or the photographers who moved every summer to Mallorca, the island of choice for the holidays of the Spanish royal family. At the beginning of the summer, on October 4, the Duke and Duchess of Palma . met ‘yes, I want’ in the Cathedral of Santa Eulalia from Barcelona.

Their first summer as husband and wife they spent it in the romantic city of Venice. The couple walked hand in hand through the Italian streets and the gestures of affection were constant even after they had been married for less than a year.

In 1999 we saw a family photo that is impossible to repeat today. A summer inn near the Marivent castle where we see from left to right Jaime de Marichalar with his son Froilán in his arms, the infanta Elena de Borbón leaning on her husband, the kings Juan Carlos I and Doña Sofia, the infanta Cristina, his brother Felipe, and by his side, Iñaki Urdangarin on the far right of the image. Who would have thought that Marichalar and Urdangarin would no longer be part of the Spanish royal family. The infanta was pregnant with Juanhis first son, who was born in September of the same year.

The members of the Spanish royal family are amazing lovers of nautical activities† In the year 2000, the newly released parents enjoyed sailing the waters of Mallorca. Juan Carlos I taught the rest of the family a taste for sailing. On his return to Spain, the emeritus landed directly in Sanxenxo to enjoy his regattas.

That same year, they enjoyed the Sydney weather on a romantic getaway. The infanta was pregnant with her second childPablo Nicolás, born in December 2000. The couple showed each other a lot of affection at the hotel in Sydney, where they seemed to enjoy their facilities.

The Infanta Cristina and Iñaki Urdangarin have also been spotted during their summer vacations in Barcelona. The family enjoyed sailing with Pedro López Quesada, who we see in the picture on a boat in the port of the city of Barcelona† The wedding has always been very close to Barcelona, ​​and on several occasions we have been able to see them in the city.

In 2003 we saw the Duke and Duchess of Palma sailing the waters of Ibiza with their children and Doña Sofía on the imposing Fortuna yacht. It is the yacht that the businessmen of the Balearic Islands donated to Juan Carlos I, who later donated it to the National Heritage.

The summer of 2005 was the first with all their children in full. Irene, the youngest of the brothers, was born on June 5 of that year and a month later we saw this photo in Mallorca. So the whole family enjoyed the summer on the Balearic Island.

A year later they enjoyed together with Alexia de Grecia, niece of the infanta, and her husband Carlos of Lanzarote. Doña Sofia’s niece has moved to Lanzarote in the early 2000s and has lived there ever since. On this occasion we also saw the whole family.

The inn of the royal family in Mallorca already consists of Doña Letizia and her two daughters, Leonor and Sofía, since 2007.

Iñaki Urdangarin is a great athlete and the family also spends time playing paddle tennis on the beach.
