Pop star Jennifer Lopez was cheered by fans after welcoming her young teen Emme on stage for a duet using the pronoun “they” at the Dodgers Foundation’s Blue Diamond gala in Los Angeles.
Jennifer Lopez was praised by fans after referencing her 14-year-old daughter, Emme, with neutral pronouns.
The 52-year-old pop star showed his girlfriend on stage for a duet at the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation’s Blue Diamond Gala on Thursday (June 16).
J-Lo called Emme “my favorite duet partner” and used the gender neutral term “them” when referring to her on the show.
He said: “The last time we played together it was in a big stadium like this and I ask them to sing with me all the time, but they don’t. So this is a very special occasion.”
“They are very, very busy, secretive and expensive. They cost me when they go out. But they are worth every penny because they are my all time favorite duet partner. So if I can “.
Jennifer and the teen dazzled the stadium crowd with a rendition of Christina Perri’s hit A Thousand Years in 2011.
Emme could be seen wearing a bright pink dress that included a pink shirt, matching shorts and socks, while Jennifer looked glamorous in a green feather coat.
The sweet duo of family singers sang into a rainbow-colored microphone during their performance.
At the end of his song, Lopez urged the audience to cheer on his son, saying, “Leave him alone for my baby.”
Jennifer shared Emme with ex-husband Marc Anthony, whom she was married to for ten years before separating in 2014.
Many fans were thrilled with J-Lo’s parenting choices and flocked to support the star on social media.
One wrote: “Awww JLo re pronouns”.
A second said: “The best parents love and support their children: go JLO and Emme!”
Emme previously performed with J-Lo at the 2020 Super Bowl halftime show, which is featured in Lopez Halftime’s new Netflix documentary.
Lopez and his ex Anthony welcomed Emme into the world in 2008, along with Emme’s twin, Maximilian.
Anthony filed for divorce in April 2012 after the couple announced their separation the previous July, but the divorce wasn’t finalized until 2014.
J-Lo, who retained primary physical custody of both children, announced she was engaged to actor Ben Affleck for the second time in April.
