The “prophetic” book by Stephen King about the epidemic of Supergrippa receives a film adjustment

According to The Hollywood Reporter, director Dag Lyman, a director of the “City of the Future” and a new remake “House on the Road”, will work on the film adjustment. Paramount’s Studio is planning to make a single complete film, not a mini series, in the format whose “confrontation” was earlier transferred to the screen.

“Confrontation” is one of the largest King novels. First published in 1978, he describes the world after the destructive outbreak of an unknown virus. The epidemic takes the lives of almost the entire population of the earth, and the survivors are drawn into the mystical struggle of good and evil. The central villain is Randall Flagg – a character that connects a series of works by King (including the Dark Tower Cycle).

Initially, King was forced to reduce the text by 20%, so that the book could be published in general. Later, in 1990, he released the version of a complete author, which has grown to more than a thousand pages. That is why both previous film adjustments-1994 and 2020 were published in the format of the mini series.

All the more interesting that the new version of Daga Laiman will be strictly single -filmed. The details are still unknown, but a “special approach” of the material is explained. Tyler Thompson, who previously worked with Liman on “Made in America” ​​with Tom Cruise, will be made by production. The script started to be developed and there are at least a few years for filming.

The most important question is – is it possible to film “confrontation” in the size of one film? The novel treats dozens of characters, locations, events and temporary lines. Even in the mini-series did not adjust.

The shortened version will most likely be greatly cut or focused on one episode or a group of heroes and will become a separate story based on motifs.
