17 years have passed since the release is “particularly dangerous”, but strangely enough, the idea of continuation has not yet died.
Screenwriter Derek Haas admitted that he and his co -author Michael Brant still have a ready script for the second part in his hands -and that he would like to take the continuation if James Mcawa agrees to return.
“Michael and I wrote the script, and in my opinion he is still nothing,” Haas said in an interview with Screenrant. “James, come on, come back, play Wesley again.”
The original film was released in 2008 and raised $ 342 million with a budget of 75 million – commercial success according to all standards. At the same time, the reviews were held positive and the visual style of the director Timur Bekmambetov became the characteristic of the film. Against the background of this technique, the Universal Studio really started the development of the follow -up – but soon everything was delayed and the project went into shade for many years.
Now the idea has only returned to the level of conversation. The studio still owns rights, and the film is not bound by a well-known franchise-this is no wonder, not DC, and not the film adjustment of the bestseller. That is why there are no special guarantees.
Moreover, there is another problem: James Mcawa herself is not too enthusiastic to return. In 2024 he immediately said that he was not interested in continuation:
“I was offered a few continued scripts, but they were weak – that’s why nothing happened,” he admitted. “If a script appeared from which the roof appeared, I might regret it. But we have made a film that I am genuinely proud of. Timur is proud of. Studio too.”
Makeva added that over the years he sees himself less and less in the next role:
“I am too old to play Wesley. This is a role for the young people. I don’t want to attract it if the story is not worthy.”
Hollywood of course knows how to remove franchises from the archive and after 30 years. But Makeva is not Liam Neeson, not Schwarzenegger, and it seems that it is not enthusiastic to play in militants for gray hair.
