“Formula 1” shot with PITT: critics prices for realism, not for the plot

The new film with Brad Pitt about Big Sport started with an impressive assessment of Rotten Tomatoes-81% of approval after the world premiere in New York.

“Formula 1” will be released on June 27. This is not a documentary, but a complete sports drama, shot on real routes with the participation of real racers and with the support of the Motorsport Federation itself.

The film tells about Sonny Heis, a former racer of Formula 1, who had to complete his career after a major accident. He returns as a mentor for young talent. Then everything is according to the canons of the sports genre: the fight against rivals, hardening character, overcoming obstacles.

But the plot is exactly what the film is praised for the least. Most reviewers admit: history is secondary, the dramaturgia is template and the dialogues are not the strongest.

The BBC calls the film “A collection of clichés from films about losers”, and Slash film notes that “it can now ignore for half an hour of shorter scenario holes.”

But the image and the effect of presence are at a scandalous level. The races were shot during real races, including the Grand Prix of the VK 2023. Pitt personally checked the car, not a real “Formula 1”, but a modified class of class F2. Real racer fagers in the frame, including Lewis Hamilton, who also acted as co -producer of the project.

Critics note that “F1” is a visual attraction and a rare case when a Hollywood film transfers the atmosphere of real breeds. Deadline compared the effect of viewing with the Top Gan: Maverik and Awards Radar called the photo “Aldackal Sume Bocolbaster, from which it is impossible to tear itself away.”

The script was written by Eren Kraeger, the director was Joseph Kosinsky, the one who shot Top Gan: Maverik. So the bet on the spectacle was clear, and based on the first reactions of those who looked, it worked.
