According to popular belief, The Godfather Part III was ruined by one terrible casting. The fact is that Coppola brought his own daughter, Sofia, to play the female lead in his film.

When the film came out, Sofia was only 19 years old, and starring in the most anticipated film of 1990 would be her ticket to Hollywood stardom.

But everything turned out differently – only the lazy did not make fun of Sofia’s acting skills, and many critics claimed that she got the role of Mary Corleone only because of her father.

“The casting of Sofia Coppola was the biggest mistake in film history. She was crucified by dozens of critics. Plus, there was no chemistry between Sofia and Andy Garcia.” – one fan noted.

Yes, Sofia and Garcia played lovers in the film, but even such an excellent actor could not help the director’s daughter to deliver a decent performance. Moreover, Coppola Sr. decided to remove the bed scene between Sofia and Garisa – fans believe that he did this only because the role of Mary was played by his daughter.

The Godfather 3 got average reviews from film critics. Now the movie is very cool 66% “fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes.

Fortunately, Sofia realized that she had no business being an actress and followed in her father’s footsteps by filming universally recognized masterpieces such as Lost in Translation and The Virgin Suicides.
