“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is a truly gigantic project from Amazon Prime, the first season of which cost 465 million dollars. This made the series the most expensive in history, but did not prevent loyal fans of John Tolkien’s work from heavy criticism, who claim that “Rings of Power” is at most a very expensive fanfiction.
We’ll leave it up to you to evaluate the script and artistic merit of the series, but for now, let’s take a look at 10 characters who weren’t in the original “Lord of the Rings” — and at least that’s why many believe that “Rings of Power” can’t be canon.
Even in the first season, the cast of “Rings of Power” received a lot of criticism from fans – fans felt that Tolkien’s legacy was being violated by the introduction of many incomprehensible and never-existing characters. Of course, many were unhappy with the skin color of these characters, and therefore the rioting fans were immediately accused of racism.
It’s not just the sudden diversity of the cast, though, but also the fact that many of the characters are hard for fans to follow as cardboard ephemera. And characters that are important to the plot, like Adar, fail to make fans truly fall in love with them.
The second season of “Rings of Power” premiered on August 29, and judging by the reviews on social networks, the series is “still boring” and “still makes no sense.” But the series also has its defenders – Tolkien fans, however, are sure that those who have ever read the original books will not be able to get even a shred of pleasure from “Rings of Power.”
