What’s scarier than reality?
Imagine: you just watched a terrible horror movie and you don’t know how to calmly go to bed. The best consolation at such a moment is the thought that this is just a movie and fiction, and that in real life this has never happened and will never happen. Well, today we have collected twelve horror movies in which even such common-sense arguments will not help – and all because they are made on the basis of very real events. Therefore, we recommend watching them only to those who really have iron nerves!
Hitchcock’s “The Birds” or “The Exorcist” would be fine, but the mere thought that even a trashy slasher film like “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” is inspired by real events fills us with horror!
To our relief, everything shown in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is still fiction, but inspired by real serial killers. Among these dubious “muses” were Ed Gein (he also inspired the creators of “The Silence of the Lambs” and “Psycho”) and Wayne Henley, convicted of participating in a series of murders known as the Houston mass murders.
The film’s director, Ted Hope, and his co-writer Kim Henkel, focused not so much on the crimes themselves committed by maniacs, but on their deformed psyches and motivations – this became the basis for Leatherface.
