Four years have passed since the end of Supernatural, and fans can’t stop discussing, arguing and developing new theories.
One of them explains why the finale went the way it did: without any main characters, a strange version of Dean’s heaven and Sam’s disgusting wig.
It turns out that all of this can be attributed to the main boss’s victory.
Proponents of the ‘Chuck Wins’ theory claim that everything we see is part of his ultimate plan. He didn’t die, but he made everyone think he did.
This idea was inspired by a season 5 episode in which a character tells Becky his version of the ending, which only features a gravestone signed “Winchesters.”
The writer’s then-girlfriend responded that it was a “terrible” way to end the story and that it would certainly upset fans.
Chuck was clearly pleased with this reaction: he wanted to evoke strong emotions, and a “bad” ending fit his purpose perfectly.
The main characters struggled throughout their lives, but ultimately fulfilled God’s prophecy: Dean died, Castiel was forgotten, and Sam lived a (happy?) life with an unknown woman.
Evil was not defeated, it only lurked among humans, proving that there is no free will and that everything is predetermined.
Perhaps the audience could have been given a happy ending – brothers living with their wives and children behind a white picket fence – but that couldn’t happen.
Not in Chuck’s world.
