Exotic and very different week before letizia† The Queen took a flight that took her from Madrid to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, where she will stay from May 31 to June 2. The target? Add what is already your seventh cooperation journey, which will allow you to learn more about the work developing Spanish cooperation in the country in the fields of health, governance and gender equality, rural development and food security. A move for which he has carried a different image than we are used to in each of his performances, both in our country and abroad.
Letizia sees the collaborative journey as humanitarian work and there is nothing more important than that. Therefore, she always decides to bring her function to the fore in any country and separate it from her appearance. Each of his acts is closely watched to see what he is wearing, which designer is signing it, how many times he has worn it or whether it is a premiere, as well as the price of each of his garments. But that doesn’t matter anymore. When it’s important to help, there’s no room to show off an expensive or cheap design. That’s the message he wanted to get across in Mauritania and that’s why it looks the same outfits during his stay in Africa.
Letizia was received with honors at Nouakchott International Airport last Tuesday by the First Lady of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Her Excellency Mariem Fadel Dah, and afterwards, after a welcome gift from two children who offered him milk and dates, by the Ambassador of Spain to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Miriam Álvarez de la Rosa and the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania to Spain, Mr Boubacar Kane. During the work she does there, she has a hard core of women at her side: the Secretary of State for International Cooperation, Pilar Cancela; the Ambassador of Spain to Mauritania, Miriam Álvarez de la Rosa, as well as the Director of Cooperation with Africa and Asia, Carmen Magariños, and the General Coordinator of the OTC in Mauritania, Rita Santos.
Mauritania ranks 157 out of 189 in the Human Development Index. The poverty rate stands at 31% and 16.6% of the population lives in a situation of extreme poverty. This is data collected from the United Nations Development Program 2020 report. A really worrying situation.
It is Letizia’s seventh collaborative journey, showing her most humanitarian facet. However, it is the first in a North African country to see first-hand the work of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and the NGDOs there.
White shirt, white pants, boots and the red vest of the Spanish Cooperative. That was Letizia’s look for this trip to Mauritania and she doesn’t want anything stealing the spotlight from this much needed work.
Wednesday the 1st began with a meeting between Her Majesty the Queen and the Bureau of Technical Cooperation, where she unveiled a plaque commemorating her visit. A few words of welcome from the Spanish Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania gave way to an open dialogue and a tour of the facilities that concluded the meeting. Then Ms. Letizia went to the logistics platform of the National Society for the Distribution of Frozen Fish (SNDP), where she visited the Distribution Project.
The Queen was received by the Director General of the SNDP, Mohamed Cherif Ahmed. Later, once inside, Doña Letizia observed the frozen fish transfer project from the truck to the storage area and was able to visualize the types of fish being distributed and the different distribution packages. Later, he attended a brief explanation of the project by the Director General of the SNDP.
This is Doña Letizia’s seventh collaborative trip, following the proclamation of His Majesty the King in 2014. Her first trip was to Honduras and El Salvador, in 2015. In 2017, Senegal, she traveled to the Dominican Republic and Haiti, in 2018, in In 2019 he traveled to Mozambique, in 2020 Honduras on a humanitarian aid trip and in 2021 Paraguay.
