Suspicions of plagiarism were unfounded, but there are questions about the plot.
On June 5, this summer’s long-awaited new series, ‘On Automatic’ by Boris Akopov, may start streaming online. The series has an impressive cast, but the crime drama is not only fascinating because of the actors.
Two acrobat brothers desperately try to brighten up their dull, gray everyday lives and accidentally stumble across a warehouse full of unusual weapons. The boys decide to sell the machines via the Internet, gradually involving all the residents of a small town in a criminal story à la Guy Ritchie.
Viewers are still worried enough that they will receive a copy of the American hit War Dogs with Jonah Hill, Bradley Cooper and Miles Teller, so we hasten to reassure you that the story turned out to be original, but… too crumpled. At least according to the first two episodes.
A total of 8 episodes are planned for ‘On Automatic’, but we can already say that the project is on par with ‘The Boy’s Word’ in terms of action and production. Slava Kopeikin – Turbo from “Blood on the Asphalt” – is revealed here in a completely different way, his character is well and deeply written. Just like his on-screen brother, Denis Kosikov. But the same cannot be said about the other heroes.
The villains look cartoonish, the side characters aren’t memorable, and they aren’t particularly developed. Maybe the situation will change in the next episodes, but so far the recognizable faces on the screen are rather unremarkable. The same cannot be said about the action component.
Everything explodes happily, everyone shoots realistically, the chases (seriously!) are not inferior to the disappointing “Furiosa”. In short, if the side storylines add depth in the next episodes, I’ll want to give ‘On Automatic’ a solid five.
